The eighth main entry in the psychological horror franchise takes place in 1960s Japan.
After a three-year wait since its initial reveal during the first Silent Hill Transmission in 2022, Konami has finally released a fresh trailer and new game details for Silent Hill f.
Developed by Taiwanese studio NeoBards Entertainment, Silent Hill f features a narrative penned by renowned writer Ryukishi07 (When They Cry) and creature and character designs by artist Kera (Spirit Hunter NG). This game marks the eighth main installment in the Silent Hill series, which began in 1999 with the original title and most recently included Bloober Team's remake of Silent Hill 2.
During today’s Transmission, Okamoto and Ryukishi07 introduced the latest trailer alongside more details about the game’s story and mechanics. Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f follows the journey of a young girl, Hinako Shimizu, as she navigates the eerie town of Ebisugaoka, Gifu, a fictional location inspired by the real-life town of Kanayama, Gero in Japan:
“Hinako Shimizu was living an ordinary teenage life... until a mysterious fog enveloped her town, triggering a horrifying transformation. Now, she must explore an unfamiliar version of her home, solving puzzles, battling strange enemies, and fighting for survival—leading to a final, life-altering decision. This is a story of a haunting yet mesmerizing choice.”
The concept of beauty intertwined with terror will be a core theme throughout the game, as emphasized by Okamoto, Ryukishi07, and Kera (through a message). Silent Hill f aims to create an unsettling yet visually stunning experience, blending nightmarish horrors with ethereal imagery.
The game’s auditory landscape is equally significant, with legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka confirming his return to handle the soundtrack and audio design.
If the newly released Silent Hill f trailer is any indication, this could be one of the most terrifying horror games in recent years. Traditional Japanese aesthetics contrast sharply with grotesque, otherworldly creatures—some with contorted limbs and multiple faces—that relentlessly pursue Hinako through the haunted town.
Silent Hill f is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. While no official release date has been announced, the game is available for Wishlist on Steam.
Stay tuned for more updates on Silent Hill f as they arrive. In the meantime, dare to watch the chilling new trailer below… if you can handle it.
